Shag Dancing

Have you tried Shaggin’? If you haven’t, well now’s the time. Every Monday evening at The General Store Café in downtown Pittsboro, master Shag instructors June Arthurs and Larry Patterson, in conjunction with members of the Chatham Area Shag Association (CASA) will be teaching Shag lessons. Learn about the dance born in the Carolinas and see why over 95 Shag clubs have sprung up from Pennsylvania to Florida.

The beginner class starts at 7:00pm, followed by intermediates at 8:00, and advanced at 9:00. Lessons are only $30.00 per person each month. So come join June and Larry along with CASA members on Mondays, and see how much fun shaggin’ can be!

Bob Vasile and Jane Peppler, as the Pratie Heads, play and sing Irish, Scottish, English, and Early American music. Joining them will be Rob Vanveld , Irish drummer

Clay Buckner (fiddle), Jack Herrick (whistles, mandolin, bouzouki) and Chris Frank (accordion, guitar), playing their own renditions of traditional and modern tunes, original compositions and tunes drawn from European and American sources.

Jazz with the Tony Galiani Band

The Tony Galiani Band plays a variety of jazz styles with an emphasis on improvisation and interplay among the group members. The band features Mietek Glinkowski on violin and Doug Norton on piano. Bill Hayes may play drums and Tony Galiani - bass.

Trilogy with Featured Guests Dan & Peggy Duggan

Trilogy was born out of the mutual respect and friendship of three multi-talented and award-winning singer-songwriters: Sheila Warner, Brooksie Edwards and Richard Edwards. Having shared bills over a number of years, their fate was sealed as a trio when they wound up living across the street from one another. Trilogy shows combine trio and solo work, jazz and folk, originals and standards into a performance that is mult-faceted and musically compelling.

Dan Duggan, nationally touring performer and teacher, is rapidly being acknowledged as one of the finest dulcimer players and composers in the country. Dan is the recipient of the National Dulcimer Championship,and has numerous highly acclaimed recordings of original and traditional songs and Tunes. Dan can also be heard on Paul Simon's Grammy nominated CD "Your the One" released in 2000.

CASA March Social

Lonesome Heart is new and old at the same time. A recent collaboration among veteran bluegrassers LaNelle Davis, Stan Brown, Ben Runkle and Tommy Edwards, the band brings a traditional sensibility to a diverse menu of original as well as classic bluegrass, country and folk songs. While blessed with skilled instrumentalists, the groups vocals are their specialty, featuring paint-peeling duets by Davis and Edwards as well as smooth trios and gospel quartet numbers with Runkle and Brown. If you enjoy real bluegrass performed by folks who love it you will like Lonesome Heart.

CASA March Social
Everyone is invited to CASA's March Social from 5-9 p.m. at the General Store Cafe in downtown Pittsboro. We hope to see many, many of our members and lots of visitors there! Please come out and support Chatham Area Shag Association your local shag club. From 5pm-9pm, Admission at the Door - $10 Singles $15 Couples.
