Lightnin' Wells
8:30-10:30 pm

Mike "Lightnin'" Wells was raised in North Carolina and has had an interest in traditional forms of music since childhood. An avid collector of country and blues recordings, these formed the basis for his developing style of playing and singing using a variety of acoustic instruments, including the guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and harmonica.

He breaths new life into the vintage tunes of the 1920's and depression era America employing various appropriate stringed instruments in a dynamic style which he has developed in over thirty years of performing experience. Raised in eastern North Carolina, Wells learned to play the harmonica as a young child and taught himself to play the guitar while developing a strong interest in traditional blues and folk music. His many years of public performance began in Chapel Hill, NC in the early 1970's. During the preceding decades he has presented his brrand of acoustic blues throughout North Carolina , the United States and Europe.

Variety is a trademark of Wells' musical style and he attempts to educate as well as entertain audiences in his various performances. A Lightnin' Wells performance is a spirited, exciting interpretation of folk blues classics and obscure material based on his years of experience, performance and research. Ligntnin' Wells has established himself at the forefront of the traditional blues revival.

Two songwriters who share a quest for earth and spirit celebration in their music, Kathleen (piano, voice, percussion) and Sheila (guitar, voice, percussion) weave their love of liberation and sustainability politics into songs of truth, hope, peace, and, well, peas!

"...Sheila's style is sophisticated, her lyrics are intelligent and beautifully written, and her finger-style playinig is first rate..." (Chapel Hill News)

"...I found myself wishing that more songwriters had Hannan's gift of truth and gentle defiance, and that more singers had the courage to give life to such a message of spirituality, love, and passion." (Out In The Mountains, Burlington, VT)
