Skatepark Fundraiser!
$10 Cover

Skatepark Fundraiser with Caltrop(Blues/Rock from Chapel Hill), Shred Crust, Spider Bags (Country/Bluse/Punk Chapel Hill), and Gasoline Stove.

ShredCrus
We're just good friends who always got together wednesday nights to skate the crater and needed something to do when the weather was bad so started messing around with instruments in the shed next to the bowl. we had fun making songs and have played a few shows for our friends to share in the fun.

Caltrop:
While citing Black Sabbath as an influence for any heavy band makes for easy stoner rock shorthand, North Carolina's Caltrop is one of the few shining examples where the influence can actually be heard. The quartet, hailing from Chapel Hill, was formed in 2005 by Sam Taylor (guitar/vocals), Murat Dirlik (bass/vocals), Adam Nolton (guitar), and John Crouch (drums). With thick, fuzzed out riffs leading the charge on most of their songs, Caltrop exists at the improbable intersection of Sabbath and the Allman Brothers Band, creating detuned, psychedelic dirges with a soulful Southern blues/rock inflection. Add a touch of the long-form, post-metal song structures of bands like Baroness and Earth, and you begin to see what makes the group tick. In 2006, the group self-released an eponymous demo, and in 2008 they released their first full-length outing, World Class, on Holidays for Quince. Caltrop is currently finishing their next full length recording with release plans slated for 2011.

CARE's 8th Annual Burrito Bash

Pittsboro, NC - Come enjoy the fun. Bid on awesome auction items, eat delicious food, and join in the laughter, while helping the cats and dogs of Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (CARE). On Tuesday, May 3, 2010 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM, the volunteers of CARE in partnership with the General Store Café (GSC), will hold our 8th Annual Burrito Bash fundraiser with both live and silent auctions at the GSC, just off the traffic circle in downtown Pittsboro.

CARE’s mission is to promote the health and safety of all Chatham County cats and dogs. We play a crucial role in reducing the number of unwanted animals that end up being euthanized in the shelter by operating a $20 spay/neuter program for Chatham County residents with income under $40,000, as well as free surgeries for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes. Our foster volunteer caregivers open their homes and their hearts to help make animals more adoptable while they await their forever homes. Money earned through your participation in this engaging event goes directly to funding animal care.

Auction items so far include local pottery by Pam Groben, a basket brimming with locally made jams, soaps, honey, etc., a classic framed print of Duke Forest trails by famous outdoor enthusiast William Nealy (now deceased), gift certificates for Eddie Smith porcelain pottery.

Sewage Sludge Action Network (SSAN) is comprised of residents of Alamance, Orange and Chatham counties, and says it will continue to focus on educating the public about the risks to public health and the environment from the spreading of sewage sludge from wastewater treatment plants on farmlands.

Each year hundreds of thousands of gallons of sewage sludge are spread on farmlands in over 70 counties in North Carolina. Farmers are given sludge free of charge to be used as a fertilizer and are not informed about the vast amounts of unregulated, untested toxic chemicals that concentrate in sewage sludge.

"The mission of SSAN is to educate the public about the practice of spreading toxic sewage sludge on farm and forest land. In addition to poisoning farmland, sewage sludge contaminates groundwater, surface waters, the air we breathe and the food we eat,” said Myra Dotson, Chair of SSAN. “For 30-years this practice, disguised as “free fertilizer,” has turned farmland into toxic waste dumps, and has been largely unknown to citizens. The public has a right to know.”

Fundraiser for Guardians of Angels

Guardians of Angels will kick off its community campaign to build a $1.2 million adoption center for cats and dogs at the General Store Café on Saturday, September 24 7-10:30 pm.

7: 00 p.m. - Singer/Songwriter Jon Shain - acoustic mix of Beatles songs

8:00 p.m. - Awards and a sneak peak of an Adoption Center design

8:30 p.m, Beatles cover band The Backbeat!

In 2010, and despite valiant efforts by rescue groups, fewer than 4 in 10 dogs from the county shelter were adopted while 5 in 10 were euthanized. 2 of 10 cats from the county shelter were adopted, while nearly 8 in 10 were euthanized. Even when done humanely, the euthanasia of any animal is sad especially when so many are adoptable. Given time these animals could be placed in life-long homes.

A Chatham County adoption center will include a warm pet and people friendly environment and will give adoptable, elderly and handicapped animals a place to thrive until they meet their life long guardian. This is the year to rally around animals and make this happen.

Admission is $20 per person and $30 per couple that will benefit Guardians of Angels. Come early for the best seating.
